Here's another plaque I just did for a customer. I color filled this one and it worked pretty good. Clean up was a little tough because of the texture of the slate. I ended up using denatured Alcohol and it worked pretty good, but took off some of the clear coat. So I just hit it lightly with plain old clear laquer spray and it looks fine.

Very Nice Mike,
did the slate come that black or did you spray that also?
It looks wonderful.

Mike,

Very nice!

Did you mask just the area where you color-filled or did you mask the entire plaque? Inquiriing minds want to know! B-)

Thanks!

Jim

P.S. I talked to Dave and he was going to send me a sample. I haven't received it, yet. I think I'll give him a call. Thanks.

Barbara,
The slate came that black. It's natural slate and has a great color to it! The only spray is a clear coat to make it shine.

Jim,
I didn't mask at all! I hate masking...I can never get the tape to keep from letting paint bleed under the edges, especially on textured or rough surfaces like the slate. So I engraved the patch, hell's angle lady and the text, then paint filled, then engraved the outline around the hell's angle. Worked pretty good.

Mike,

I'd rather do it without the masking, too. That's good to know you were able to do it this way. Looks like the trick is to do some "cleaning" with the laser afterwards. The outline looks good around the young lady!

I got my sample yesterday! It does look as good in person as what I've seen in your pictures. Now I need to determine what I want to engrave on this slate.

Mike, what type of color fill did you use for the slate?

Thanks!

Jim

I used regular old acrylic craft paint from the Wal-Mart craft department...I think it's called craft smart or folkart...something like that. I was sure you would like the sample when you got it.

Thanks, Mike. I'll have to go to Wally World and pick up some acrylic paints. I want to try color filling and engraving on this 8x10" sample. I also want it to be a good-looking sample so I can show it around and see if I can stir up some business!

Thanks, again. This is fun!

Jim
