I have a font that I downloaded from the net. After unzipping the file it worked fine and I was able to copy and paste to my font directory. I then find it via Bitstream Font Navigator load it to active fonts and I'm good to go in Corel Draw 12. I take the same font file and copy and paste it to an older computer running Corel 11 and it will not recognize the font file even though the properties identify it as a True Type Font. The Bitstream Font Navigator will find the font but when I try to move it to the active fonts it gives me an error saying it's not a valid TTF. Any thought?

What's the operating system on the older computer? Does the font icon look like a TT or an OT? I believe OT (open-type) are not compatible with older Windows operating systems (95, 98?).

At one time you could not just drag fonts to the fonts folder.
You had to install them through the windows menu or a font utility program. Maybe something in the other computer, the software or the font has something that requires an official "installation".
Pure guess but worth a try.

Maybe when you loaded the font from Navigator, it overwrote the font you downloaded from the net. I'm not sure if fonts from Navigator are compatible with Corel v.11. Just an idea.

Corel 9 came with Font Navigator so I do not think that was a problem. The possibilities that I see are that either the file was corrupted during the transfer and you have to try again, or that TTF may have added something that the older systems cannot handle.

As long as we're all guessing here.....I may as well throw mine into the ring! ;-)

I remember back in the Win98 days, that they it had a problem handling large numbers of fonts installed and I ran into a problem when I overloaded it. It would not recognize all of them.

Since I had (or still have) a font fetish, I found it necessary to get a font manager so I could install and uninstall fonts to keep the number down. More food for thought if you are on 95/98.

XP seems to handle the larger numbers better, but I still use the manager to avoid problems.

Even though it's an older computer I am running Windows XP on it. The font file does not have the same icon as the other TT fonts but the properties identify it as a TT font. I have attached the font file take a look.

Serpentine Bold Oblique ??

You can install approximately 1,000 TrueType fonts in Windows 98. Almost all of the installed fonts can be used simultaneously, and the same number can be printed in the same document.

That file opened fine for me.

If I remember correctly Win98 sometimes had problems when the fonts went over 600. The recommendation was no more than 400.

Yes, it's Serpentine Bold Oblique even though the file is named something else. I don't think the problem is an older version of Windows since in running XP. It's just an older computer using CD11. I tried to reload the font multiple times. I even tried to download the zipped file directly to a thumb drive & copy to the hard drive before unzipping and got the same results.

Put the file in a different folder than the font folder, then go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and then double click on Fonts. Then in the File menu select Add Font (or something like that). Browse to the folder you put the font in and select it and add it.

Do this with Corel closed.

This one has me baffled. Nothing I've tried works. Nothing anyone suggests works. Everytime I try to install the font it gets 50% complete and faults with an error message that says

"Unable to install the Serpentine-Bold Oblique (True Type) font. The file may be damaged. Check with your font vendor about obtaining a new file."

I'm running Windows XP on both machines. The only thing I can guess is that the icon is not the same as the other TT fonts.

Any other suggestions?

Have you tried to install a different test font? Just to see if it is the font or the OS ??

I downloaded your file into my download file, went to control panel, font file, install new font, selected it from my download file, installed it and brought it up in CD11 font navigator.
