We have X3 and 12 is still installed since there are some .ai files that X3 won't open and 12 will. You would think that Corel would have fixed that by now.

The Corel people are aware of it and a fix on the way according to the Corel speaker in one of the seminars I took.

If anyone has not upgraded to X3 - I personally encourage you to do so - it puts most other versions to shame.

Joe,

Corel knew about it the 1st week it was introduced. They are soooo quick to respond.

We really missed seeing you and the wife. Looks like I'll be rooting for the Saluki Nation this year in the Dance since UCONN won't be there. Very disappointed in their performance this year.

How about my dawgs!!! We could get a good seat for a change. First we have to take care of business at the MVC tourney this weekend. Last year the MVC got 4 in the dance now it looks like two at best. Wichita fell apart like a cheap watch after being ranked 8th. We have tickets for the MVC tourney at the end of the week - I got to get busy!

I can assure you that you were missed at LV - did not seem the same without you there to give me a hard time. Lets work toward next year.
How is that remodel coming along.

The Corel guy said that our industry drives the program updates and fixes.
Do you think he says that to everyone who hears his program :-$

You know what is scary about that Joe? In one of my classes last week it was mentioned that the A&E industry is really the only ones using Corel anymore....

It appears Corel has shot themselves in the foot a couple of times and are play hard and fast to regain market share. The question becomes...will they?

I don't know.

Here's a question, based on the poll:

Should Corel files placed on the site be saved to an older version, i.e. Corel 9, so people with older versions will be able to open them, where they can't with X3?

I think yes would be the only answer to that.

Just my two cents. Want change?

That is why I did the first survey over a year ago. Only one person, if memory serves, used Corel 8, while many used 9.

At that time it was suggested to post all in Corel 9 format, except something that works differently in X3. (Such as text on a circle.)

David;

I would like to request that, as a minimum, people name the files that they post so others can easily see what version they are. Something as simple as a suffix like, -v9, -v12, as in: MyUploadedFile-v9.cdr. That sure would eliminate a lot of confusion.

Since I have the pleasure of doing business with a company that is still at version 7, I have found very little that gets lost when down-saving files to a lower version. We aren't using the full capabilities of CorelDraw, though. Other than the inconvenience to the poster, I don't see any problems with saving files at v9 (or lower).

Carl,

I think the suffix idea is a good one and saving Corel attachments in older versions would benefit a greater number of people.

What would be a good way to have people comply with that suggestion?

I see it as being like the 50KB suggestion for attachments. Some follow that guideline, while others don't.

Penalties. Harsh and swift. Hit 'em where it hurts: either in the wallet or in their EE access. $10 or 1-day suspension per misnamed file; $1 or 1-day suspension for each KB over 50KB. With those penalties, you'll have this problem nipped in the bud IMMEDIATELY!

;^)

How about adding the 'requirements' to the upload screen?

That sounds doable. Not to say your other idea doesn't have merit. :-)

I know absolutely nothing about the Beehive software, but it is fairly easy to programmatically determine the version of a CorelDraw file. It may be more trouble than it is worth, but, after an upload, the file could be checked for the version and the suffix appended, automagically! Gee, you could also send an invoice to the poster at the same time. REVENUE!!!

Would Eric be interested in evaluating that feature? I realize he probably has a lot on his to-do-list.

I do not like the idea of penalizing members who go a little too far with file size. We can PM them to have it taken care of. If not complied with and the file is just too large we may have to delete it, but even that hurts.

In another thread I posted a new rule, you can post a large file to get help with it, as long as you delete the file after you receive the help. I think that covers being helpful and eliminating the problem with huge files. Hope it works. (We are still in the learning stages of forums and flying by the seat of our pants.)

Carl,

I have what I call my "Wish List" for Eric, which he's working his way through.

We can add that to the list. :-)
