Just wondering if anyone knows if I can output from Dr. Engrave (Roland Product) to a Vision 1212 engraver?

I have Engravelab Prro, but it has a serioius learning curve. Dr. Engrave is much simpler.

I can't figure it out, as Dr.Engrave uses a "printer driver" for the engraver, whereas the vision engraver doesn't have a driver (???).

Thanks for any input.

Varn,
I haven't a clue. But I do have a question. What is the file output or extension from Dr. Engrave?

I don't understand your question.

To engrave using Dr. Engrave, I "print" just like one would print to a regular printer, except it "prints" to the engraver.

The engraver is set up as a printer.
The Phoenix 1212 is not set up as a printer.

I am just starting to get into this part of the business so there is a lot I don't know. Is Dr. Engrave just a driver for the engraver? Or is it a graphics program?

Dr. Engrave is engraving software that uses (I think) a driver (similar to a printer driver) to send the output to the engraver.

I also have Engravelab software, but it doesn't use a printer type driver to send output to the engraver.

I am confused.

That makes TWO of us. (insert good natured laugh here).

So if Dr. Engrave, is a software package, can you create a file in it and save the file without printing it?

Hi Varn,

Engrave lab software is CADLINK product and VISION engravers are
using software also product from CADLINK.
To be on safe side you may give call to Western engravers and they will be able to give you needed info on how to send the job to engraver from EngraveLab.

Hope this will help you.

Hi Varn

my understanding us that Dr Engrave is a proprietary package for Roland machines. I am not aware that it supports drivers for non roland devices (but I'm sure someone will prove me wrong!)

On the other hand engravelab supports Roland machines. I say get on the learning curve now and start that clime!

I found engravlab more confusing than the previous packages I used, but I quickly got over that. I think it is a great piece of software which has improved productivity, and supports multiple engraverts.

my big issue with engravelab was, and is, the poor selection on engraving fonts provided. Some of the machine suppliers have added on fonts to the standard offering. I ended up buying fonts from Lamro.

Yes, you can create stuff in it and save it.

Then it should have a file extension of the saved file. What is the extension?

An example would be CorelDRAW having a .cdr file extension, or Adobe Illustrator being .ai.
