I have an oppurtunity to provide equipment i.d. plates for a manufacturer.They are currently being rotary engraved,but take a long time to do.I would like to laser them.They are brass colored aluminum.When engraved,the letters and numbers are silver.I have not been able to find a supplier that has a material that gives me the brass/silver combination that I need.The manufacturer will not change the color combination because of all the Government red tape they would have to go thru.Any suggestions on what I can do other than buying a new,faster rotary engraver,which isn't an option yet?

Rick, What kind of equipment are you using? Sounds like you're describing typical gold aluminum trophy plate stock, which is available through many suppliers. As to a faster way to mark plates, a laser engraver might be the way to go. I have a 30 watt LaserPro.However,I haven't been able to find any of the right color combination (gold over silver).

If anodized aluminum is not the "right" color, it may be alodined (alodine is typically "gold" color) aluminum. Any aircraft parts finishing shop should be able to do alodine. Mike Avco Key Supply Wholesale Keychains www.avcokey.com

Rick, I second the suggestion to contact Frank Ricci at Chewbarka. Their "new" formulation provides a clean, white image when lasered and if one of their brass color variations fits, it should be a no-brainer for your customer. "Good friends can be a real annoyance."

I second Steve's recommendation to see if they will go with Chewbarka gold anodize.

His stuff does laser white. I saw the Clear anodize product he offers and was amazed. It barely looks anodized, fairly shiny. It does also engrave white. It looks like it was painted at 600 DPI.

You can also push that anodize is a very hard coating and will also last longer.

It has to laser to silver-not white.They won't accept anything else.

Or Hey (or is it Hay) , get a diamond drag machine..

since this contract will be worth what 20-30K a year buy a good Rotary machine and expand your service offer.
