I go to a local sheet metal supplier (aluminum, stainless etc.) and he cuts them to length out of 1/8" thick aluminum. I usually have them cut 3/4" wide by 24" long. Costs a dollar each (cash) and a trip downtown.

I use bolt cutters to put one angle on the bottom and I use the drill press for the holes and a pop rivet gun to fasten the sign.
