Greetings,
Is there a way you can tell by looking at metal on a plaque if it is laserable or not?
I was given 2 plaques to engrave (rather hastily so I didn't have a chance to look before the person left...long story)
and am wondering if I will be able to laser them. They just need names and dates and as much as I would like to do it in house, I am wondering if I should give it to one of my competitors >.< ...
just this once.....
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Becky

What color is the surface? If it's black, I'd probably assume that it's laserable. This also assumes that the backing is gold or silver.

Hehehe....if it turned out NOT to be laserable after that, and it messed the plaque up, I'd just tell the customer that they bought a bad plaque.

Then I'd suggest one from my own wall. (angel)

If it is black surface and it is not a laser brass it will turn out dull. Some Novis #2 can be used to polish it to bright, but be sure to wax it afterward or it will tarnish a little faster than if burnished for some reason.

It's royal blue with brass "engraving" It really looks lasered but I just don't know. Just don't know if I have the guts to stick it in there to see what happens.....

Use a magnifying glass to see if the original has any "scratch or machine looking marks". You can usually tell right away and not ruin the piece by experimenting.

They have just stopped making laser royal blue brass. I have a large client that used it, had to switch to laser steel.

The plaques are for Sertoma. They are purchased through the Sertoma website. They are mass produced and engraved either through the Sertoma website or by the purchaser. I did send an email to see if I could get any info from them.

Probably in this case, better safe than sorry.
Thanks all
