Being new to computerized engraving, I'm looking at a used vision 1612 with a series 2 controller. I know the company that has it, the engraver was purchased about 7 years ago and used very little (approx 100 hours). Question: is there a major difference between this and the newest series 3 controller? Can it be updated? I"m going to look at it in a couple of weeks, and just want to know what to look for and what to ask.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. I didn't mean to sneak up on you, but I saw your name, as our most recent member and thought you'd be the likely person to adddress Mike's question.

Any words of wisdom?

David,

You are correct!

I'll do my best to reply to questions on the forum relating to Vision machines and general engraving questions the best I can. I think it would be beneficial to companies if we can help out.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks,
Joe

The major differences in the series 2 controller vs. the series 3 controller is that the series 3 connects via an ethernet connection instead of a serial connection like on the series 2. Also, the series 3 controller will engrave at a much faster speed then the series 2. The series 3 also has an LCD screen on it for easy positioning.

The series 2 can be upgraded to a series 3.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,

Welcome to the forum.

I am expecting my first Vision next week so don't go away. ( insert laugh here).

Forgive my arrogance please, but since you are among the newest members, I would like to ask if you are here because of my correspondence and conversations with Mike Colcord?

I'm REALLY looking forward to my engraver. So far I am completely pleased with Vision Engraving systems.

Thanks and once again, welcome to the forum

Joe- thanks for the input, does not sound like serious problems for a first machine and the fact that it can be upgraded is a definate plus. As I said I hope to look at the machine and give a test run in a couple of weeks. Will keep you updated
Thanks again
Mike

Hi Mike..

I have a 1612 with the Series2 controller, and I have nothing but good things to say about the machine..

I haven't had the pleasure of upgrading to the Series 3 controller, but my unit has been working perfectly, and I believe I bought it in 1999...

Hope this helps!

Dixie

That is the best compliment you could ever give. I'm impressed. :-)
