I'll be making a presentation plaque for a posthumous induction of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott to Hollywood's Rockwalk, slated for May 17, 2007.

I had no idea who he was until I did a little research on his death, which took place a little over three years ago.

I figured it was just the usual scenario of hard living, which certainly applied, but I was surprised by what I read.

I remembered seeing that in the news...Just about as weird and around the same time as that big fire from the pyrotechnic stuff that started a fire on stage, and killed the guitarist from Great White..... Ty Longly, and a 96 others that couldn't get out of the Rhode Island venue in time.

I remember when this happened. A couple of weeks later a video clip was posted on the web of the whole thing. Somebody in the audience had a video camera and caught the shooting on tape.

Not a good era for Rock and Rollers. Yikes!

Great White had some great tunes. Too bad the tragic fire is what they'll be remembered for.

To your knowledge, did the authorities ever attach a motive to the shooting?

There were lots of rumors, but from what I remember the police in the end decided none of them were true and they never figured out a motive.
