I ordered 6 cutters for the EGX 30 from JDS and they don't fit??? The ones I ordered are the 1/8 inch x 4.5 inch. That's the same as the one that came with the engraver. The problem is that the threaded part (tool holder?) is different than the one I have. The threaded area is smaller and won't screw into the engraver. Anyone else have this problem or know why this is happening? JDS is stumped, they say that those should all be standard...but it's not fitting, that's for sure.

I had the same problem with my EGX-300

Use the tool holder that came with the machine. Just loosen the set screw and off it comes, then slide it on the next cutter you want to use.

I hope that that reads right and helps.

So has Roland set a new standard for the knob just for their machine...
I bet they don't sell just the knurl knobs either then.

According to the Roland Spec Sheet on their engravers they are equiped with the:

"industry-standard 0.125-inch diameter spindle"

Ah... the European Standard...metric (which should read 3.175 mm)

A friend of mine had the same problem, the hole is drilled for .125, but the thread for the brass part is metric. He was able to order a few extra from Roland.

Ah, non-standard industry standard.

When you finally understand it completely... it changes.

Yes, Roland does sell the collars seperately for $4 each but I didn't feel I should have had to pay extra...and I didn't want to keep switching the collar from the one I had...If I order from someone else am I going to have the same problem?

Hi Mike ... welcome to Roland's world ... :'-( Depending on where you order your cutters from (not JDS tho), you merely have to specify Roland's holders. I bought a dozen of them extra from Roland as I order all or most all, engraving supply from JDS. Specialized cutters I have gotten from Antares and they have the Roland holders.

Mike,

Roland has their own standard. We make our Burnishing adapter to fit their engrtaver. And had to make a special type just for them.
They utilize the thread of a standard 11/64" cutter (1/4-32 left hand thread) on their 1/8" dia. cutters.
I would guess most cutter mfgs have this knob, typical price is $2-3. I would not use the same knob for all cutters, very poor idea, unless all you have. Hard to mark sizes, keep track of, cutter change out requires adjustment, etc.

Anyone know where to find a featherlight/EZ Rider to fit a Roland Machine?

Existing one's I've found don't fit Roland machines due to the thread size difference.

Thanks!

Varn,

We make one, it is $60. We call it a Burnishing Adapter. Centaur used to make them also. I do not think Western ever made them.
I am out of stock but am looking thru our many parts to see what I can make up. Roland bought all our stock on hand several weeks ago.
Our part number is
MSC-1900-125R 1/8'' Burnishing Floater, Roland thrd & wrench

If you have one more, I'll take it, as long as it fits the Roland 1/8" tools and spindle.

Thanks!

John,

Line starts behind me, if he finds/makes one.

:-)

I've been looking for one of these forever for the roland machine. I'm surprised Roland doesn't sell them, if they bought them all up from Q1.
