Well! Did thorough physical head cleanings 2 days ago and got great nozzle checks. Went ahead and did a run of full color name badges on Monday. Did not use the printer yesterday.

When I used it today, a couple of prints were perfect. On the second batch, I noticed that the black was missing a bit. So, I performed a nozzle check which showed that the black was missing (full cart). I started a head cleaning and was making progress when my fingers got stuck in the keyboard such that I believe I sent two commands to the printer. At least, it seemed as though I did.

In any event, it refused to print the nozzle check and the low on ink/paper jam red light started blinking. Since there was no paper in the printer at this time, I held down on the blinking button for 5-10 secs. Nothing happened. I then pressed the yellow button that usually sends the cart carriage to the left. Nothing. The carriage won't unlock from the dock.

I turned the printer off. When I turned it back on, it goes thru the motions of presurizing the nozzles but then parks and continues with the red blinking light. After a while, I unplugged it for several minutes. No change.

Then I unplugged it during the pressurizing, when the carriage was un docked (unlocked). I slid the carriage to the left and plugged the printer back in again. The carriage moved to the right, really slowly, parked itself, went thru its pressurizing/cleaning routine, parked......and the blinking red light came back on.

I've never had this happen before. At this point, the green on/off button is blinking, as well as the red light. Pushing ANY of the buttons does nothing, except the on/off. If I press IT, it turns off (or on).

Carts are full except for cleanings. No paper is jamming.

Any suggestions?

Ed,

I know there is a way for resetting the printer, what you got is an internal error that I think the only way of fixing it is by resetting the printer, there is a sequence in how to reset the printer by holding some of the buttons in the printer at power "on" but I do not remember it, any way I did a search in the internet and found a web site (forum?) that it may have your solution I only read a couple of messages and looks like it is related to your problem is that just don't have much time to read it all, I will let you have the reading. :)

Have fun and good luck here is the link, http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/13064

There is a reset routine that you can try. I don't have it with me right now. You can search for it on the internet or I know it has been posted on Dyesub.org. search for 1280 reset procedure. This is when the lights are blinking like a railroad crossing. green on red off, the red on green off etc.

A blinking red light can mean one of the ink cartridges is not seated correctly. Pull each one out, take a look at the contacts in the printer to make sure nothing is broken. Reseat each ink cartridge.

You can also go to epson.com troubleshooting page. They will have you enter which lights are blinking and what pattern they are blinking. It will tell you what they think is wrong.
