Hi Folks,
I was working last night on simple drawing. I've had this drawing for a while. It's an outline of a horse that I use to cut license plates from mirrored acrylic.
I keep it color filled but I don't raster it.
I wanted to just raster an outline last night so I took the color out and made the outline a 4 pt outline for rastering. When it tried to engrave it missed about a third of the drawing and didn't seem to have any consistency of what was being engraved. It looks right on the screen, and it seems to be one continuous line.
I'll probably need to redraw the outline but I thought I'd ask if anyone knows what's going on first.

Brian,

Can you attach the file to a post? There are several folks around here that can take a look at that for you.

I'll try.
It was done with Corel Trace so it's a pretty jagged looking line.

Your outline has 3 pieces and you really need to smooth the outline by removing some of the node. There is something in the center of the outline and a leg piece that is also inside the outline.

Thanks Bill,
I know how to fix the nodes and I'll get on that.
I just don't know why it's in 3 parts and why it didn't raster. I saw the 3 sections in the object manager when I was trying to engrave. I thought maybe one was shut off but I couldn't find it.
Like I said, it vector cuts fine.
It straight from trace and I haven't fooled with it yet. If it's filled it rasters fine, it's just when I increase the line width that it won't engrave the whole thing.

I have not looked at the file since you are going to work on it, but have an idea.

When you thickened the line, you might have missed a piece. It may show the same on the screen but may really be thinner.

I don't know if this will fix it or not. Give this one a try. I took your improved version and made an inner contour. Then filled the original with black and the contour with white. The result should look about the same, but everything should be thick enough to raster engrave.

Dave, thanks for the help. I'd already tried again before I saw that you had replied.
Looks like after I got rid of the thousands of nodes it worked just fine. I still don't know why. What appeared to be 3 lines turned into 2 (that's what it should have been) and lasered just fine.
I need to remember to go back after tracing and clean up the nodes.
