I sympathize , as I too am hurt by cheap slave labour manufactured imports at under my material costs.
However this situation was not unforseen and has been going on for years
To survive , you have to adapt and change your business model. A lot of cos that go under in the face of this have ostrich mentality.
We have adopted a new strategy and that is to offer better quality to niche markets and do more lower quanity jobs as well as being far more innovative in terms of concept and design.
Better still we are trying to beat them at their own game by working smarter and quicker and increasing productivity. The flood of cheap imports can either be a spur to get your own act in order or a stake thru the heart. I think it depends on management as to which it is.

John,

This press release hit you the same way that it hit me.

I was an ASI listed company for a year, then jumped ship because of the constant pestering to buy this, subscribe to this, etc. It was helpful during that first year to get my company hooked up with the suppliers via the ASI catalog program. It at least got me familiar with many of the sources.

Since my departure from ASI about four years ago, I haven't subscribed to any paid services. Even without paid services, my promotional product sales continue to grow. 2006 sales were up 80% over the prior year, and my week 1 sales of 2007 blew away that of the same period a year ago. I've convinced myself that I really don't need the services at all.

I have referred many of you to Larry for YAG laser engraving services. The quality of his work and service was valued by many in our industry. Larry was a good man who will be sorely missed.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any jobs in the pipeline. I can get you in touch with the person handling the transfer of existing orders. Alase.com, whose equipment Larry also represented, will assist any way they can.

Sawgrass Sub Ink Patent upheld by EPO

The European Patent Office (EPO) has upheld a core Sawgrass Technologies patent (No. 0778798B1) for liquid sublmation inks and inkjet printing processes and found no basis for changing the scope of the patent.

Nathan Hale, founder and CEO of Sawgrass, says, "The EPO review was exhaustive and its decision is a clear victory for our customers and the technological value we bring to them."

To my knowledge, Texas Original Graphics, (TOG) is the last United States company involved in selling liquid sublimation ink (Sublibrite), which doesn't fall under the Sawgrass umbrella, with those brands being Sublijet and ArTainium.

A while back, I spoke to a TOG representative and asked if there was any pre-trial wrangling, going on behind the scenes.

I was told, "No. We're looking forward to our day in court.", which will take place in October of 2007.
