Mike:
I ran one of these big pieces of granite this morning. I put a large photo that I made of some boats on it, 10" x 22". I used a setting of 100 speed-44 power, took 26 minutes. It turned out beautifully. I ran the whole thing, photo, text and all at 300dpi. This setting was recommended by a guy in the Sawmill Creek forum that has an Epilog 40w, same as mine. It worked great. Thanks for all your help and advice, I appreciate it. I'll post a photo when I can get one made.

Pls be sure that the air hose spreading on a metal tube, touch the x encoder reader and disturb the movt.

PUT OFF THE MACHINE.

Remove the top cap of the horizontal beam and see the head assy is mvg as usual when you move in your free hand. See the possiblity of touching x encoder reader module had friction on metal tube.

You could notice the scratch mark on the x axis encoder reader module.

if its., see the metal tube screws are correctly clamped on either sides.

proceed. else call tech guru.. techsupport at epilog.

Its been awhile but I think I used one of the paint stick fillers. With narrow and small letters they are quick and easy. They are solid like crayons and you just rub in to fill and wipe off. Johnson plastics has them as others likely do.

I would suggest the aluminum poker chips from Chewbarka. The price is low enough that you can mark them up 3x and still get paid fairly for your laser time. I can do 200 at a time in my laser, and at $120/hour laser time it's only about $0.16 per chip, add that to the cost and you are right at, or under, your target of $1.00.

I cut and engrave 1/8 luan 2-3 days a week. It cuts fast, I use a slightly higher and slower setting than I would with 1/16 plastic or about the same as filon (smooth sheet fiberglass). I have no problem with either voids or delamanination. We use about as cheap a grade as we can get away with. Engrave with about twice the power as you would plastic and you should like what you see. If you have a cabinet shop in the area 5/32 birch, cherry, and maple scraps also engrave nicely. For test pieces scraps and odds and ends sometimes end up specialty proto types, watch who you show though I got stuck doing 600 Conastoga wagon wheels one time cause I said that I could come up with a design for someone else.
