Hi all,

We are in this business for the past 3 yrs. Hvg got a great confidence in laser engraving photos in wood we started and thought of getting the returns very quickly, since there is no competitors. But , we are hung with pricing.. we failed to make market using wood. Customers say its too costly.

we had to think to change our view.. from photos to awards.depending colleges, educational institutions.

Still we have not achieved atleast 25% of our goals to touch the hieghts..

Competitors with minimal rates, hobbyists, game of the customers... are the factors to decide our engravers fate. Sometimes we think to close the business.. very frustrating.

suggest us to get rid of this..

Glad to see this thread come back to life. Since my main occupation is farming I can relate to alot of what has been posted here. First of all, I doubt if anyone is plowing under any crops. The main reason for farm subsidies is to be sure THIS country has a steady food supply. Of course, being in the beef business, we get little subsidies. Beef considered a luxury. I too have had to scale back. I still have a 2004 duramax diesel for feeding and hauling but have parked it because of $3.50/gallon diesel and 10 miles /gal. Bought me an '83 Ford ranger for $800 and get 30 mi/gal. Not near as comfortable, no radio, smokes a little but..... Just my 2 cents worth. Jimmy

On Sunday when I was at the land fill looking at all the things that folks had thrown away that still had some life in them something bright and shiny caught my eye......I really had to look at what the bent and rumpled thing was......but it sure was bright and shiny.

Finally I discerned that it was a trophy. A decent one as trophies go. White marble base, two column with a nice figurine.....probably plastic maybe not..but it made me REALLY sad ( the landfill does this to me for many reasons) because seeing the trophy there amongst the rotting garbage made me feel that someones great achievement had been thrown out.

Yes it could have been one of the trillions of politically correct no child loses kind of trophies that tend to trivialize the awarding of achievement, but I don't know that. ( my opinions on THAT are for another thread)

But what hit me the most is that all of the awards and all of the plaques mean NOTHING regardless of for a little kid or a BIG kid ( adult) if you have no one to share it with...

THE singular most important thing in ones life should be FAMILY and friends because all else will ultimately end up in the landfill.....

Just my two cent.... no change given.

To me, that is insulting and I'd just as soon not complete the work for them with that attitude. Add in the other state payroll, which to me equals 60-90 day payments, and their price would be higher than $1,000.

Good for you David for standing firm. We need to have some dignity and belief in our work value.

Michael,
First, let me apologize if you got this message twice. I hit enter and my message disappeared. I will try and recreate it.

I understand and agree with you about that thread regarding Steve Spence. I come to this forum to learn and to share what I have learned ( if anything). This forum in my opinion is primarily about sharing information, contacts, problems, solutions and education...

While I do not know Mr. Spence or the details of the thread or the case, my simple response was WOW!.

In America today I believe that we have gone to an extreme of being politically correct trying to not offend ANYONE. This in MY opinion is unreasonable and may infact infringe on ones constitutional right to free speech. However as pointed out, this forum is much like a radio station. If you don't like what is being said, then change the channel. ( by this I mean move to a different thread, not stop being involved with the forum).

I personally believe that should one leave the forum or not participate because of ONE thread, then not only is that person missing out on an opportunity to learn, but an opportunity to SHARE. The one thing that we CAN take with us when we die is knowledge. To take that and not share it, is in MY humble opinion, a crime.

With that said, I APPRECIATE you speaking out, but I would encourage you to continue to be a part of this forum and to learn and share with the rest of us.

Now if you will excuse me, with all due respect, my Heineken is getting warm.

Please! I've had all I can take. Enough with the "Confidential" emails.

I've said it in the past, but for the benefit of those who don't know me, I didn't initiate a public forum to entertain private conversations.

If anyone takes issue with anything I've said between this forum and/or www.dyesub.org/forum or has an objection to the content of the forum, this is the place I wish to address your concerns. Right here, in public.

As an example, in the recent past, an industry supplier felt he was dealt "borderline libel" within a thread discussing his company.

How did I make that discovery? Certainly not through direct contact.

Instead, the person approached another forum member, who has absolutely no control over the management of the forum and the email was then forwarded to myself and others. To that person, I say, "Why not take the bull by the horns and make the "Borderline Libel" accusation within the thread it alledgedly occured?"

In closing, I say, do what you want. Feel free to label your emails "Confidential" but be forewarned that if your message has anything to do with my public statements or the content of the forum, it WILL become a public issue.

Yes, that would be the perfect answer to this business for me. If I can get the business to grow and be out here, that is the plan. I do have a small storefront in the house where the locals can come, if they want to drive that big 2 miles to the house from town!! LOL But if at some point I feel I am ready and need to move to town, then that might be the next step. But for now, happy being at home. :)

I do love being at home and doing this. And, they say you should do what you love!!! :) Hopefully that will be my case and at some point, I would like to be able to have the hubby stay home and work here too. As we work great together and he does make so much more things then I do. But, right now, he is needed in town with a regular paycheck.

Are there any others that run this from home without a store front in town?
