G'Day Guys,
I must tell you all a story about my welcome to Vegas during the ARA show.
When Kathy and I flew into Vegas, We checked into Circus Circus, ( that place needs some work ) although it wasnt dirty... it was simply tired.
We went out on our first night there ( the 28th of Feb ) and had Prawns ( shrimp) and Steak...Kathy became very ill... :-(
I did all I could for her, tended her on bended knee ,with cold face washers, brought her medicine from the pharmacy, Gave her a Bucket, gave her sleeping tablets, patted her brow, told her how much I loved her, hugged her repeatedly, fluffed her pillows....etc etc etc.
The next day and night Kathy was still the same..."Sick as a dog" in bed...What was I to do...? :-(
I couldnt do any more for my beautiful Princess...so I went out..
I went down the strip, met several Elvises'...He's still the King!
Saw the sights.... drank plenty of Jim Beam...some places ripped me off at over $ 7.00 a JB and coke, others were reasonable....then Jackpot struck...
I ended up sitting next to two Vacuum cleaner salesmen next door to Circus Circus in a little dump of a joint.....but the Jimmies were only
$3.25 a glass....I love the way you Yanks pour alcohol... You pour it to almost the brim...then shoot a small discolouring squirt of coke into the glass.. :D
Yeah ...my kinda drink !!!... :-) In Australia they measure every shot into a 30ml measure and then fill the rest with coke....Blah I say !!!
By the time I was on my 15 th Jim Beam and coke....after walking the strip :P
and visiting Quarks at the Hilton and finally ending up in that dingy joint.........whilst the whole time thinking about my poor little Princess Kathy.... :'-(
I eventually, at 3 am and totally "Ma fished"...began to stagger the few metres back to Circus Circus.....
( after learning every thing in the world about small town USA, Vacuum cleaners and how it is to be a 3rd Generation Vacuum cleaner sales business in this day and age)
In the Drive way of Circus Circus...this Beautiful Silver Chrysler 300 pulled up...and inside were two dark American woman ( afro americans/ Negro)...please dont yell at me I'm not sure of the politically correct way to describe those beautiful folk...
The Driver yelled out.." How yah Doin'Honey?"..
I replied in my semi concious state " G'Day Love, I'm doing Just Fine".
Her Friend in the passengers seat said. " How'd yah like a good time , good lookin"?..
I replied.. " Youve got Twenty Twenty Vision, but I'm already having a Good time ".
The Driver said " I'd like to give you a Blow J**" and pulled out her right Breast!!
At this point I was simply amazed !..What, being an Aussie and All, on my first trip to America...or any where outside of Australia.....
She smooched me a kiss and said.."It 'd be for free for you darlin""
at that point I replied.... " You folk are just the most hospitable people in the world,...I mean I cant think how anyone would want to make you feel more welcome than that"..
I was simply blown away by the friendly nature and hospitality of the women folk to strangers in Vegas......I couldnt wait to get back to Australia to tell all my mates how obliging and friendly your U.S. women were.....!
I mean how nice was it to be welcomed in this fashion by your women folk......I tell ya..!
She then lifted her skirt...Yes, this is true and said "Its all for you honey !!!!" :-$
"Gosh and Gee wilikers" :O I said..
"Thanks so much for your kind and enticing offer of Autralian / American Goodwill relations, But I have the worlds most beautiful Princess up their in that there hotel, I , however , wont forget your wonderful and heart felt offer of goodwill and friendship"...
She Shrugged her shoulders and drove off...Perhaps thinking how rude and ignorant it was of someone not to show their friendliness back...after such a heartfelt welcoming to the USA...
To that I simply say...I am sorry if I offended your wonderful US welcome to foriegners...but we dont all know the local customs...after all it wasnt in the travel catalogue.........
regards
Peter :-)

Peter,
You seem to have picked up on the Vegas traditions quickly enough.
When I handed you a couple of EE business cards, you began flicking them together very deftly. :-)

Peter,
While attending an earlier ARA show, my family and I were sight-seeing on the LV Strip, with Dave and Lynne Loda.
Eventually, I couldn't avoid noticing a "flicking" sound as I walked by some people.
Knowing what an effort the LV Chamber of Commerce was making, to promote Vegas as a "Family" destination, I figured the "Grasshopper Sounds" were promoting a Circus or other family entertainment event.
Upon accepting one of the cards, it was plain to see that the entertainment being promoted was purely adult.
Sin City, no matter how the COC chooses to promote it, hasn't changed, despite their efforts to paint it otherwise.

That is one of the biggest problems with bringing family here to Vegas, the "adult companion" business. They try to stuff your hands with their ads as you try to walk the strip. I think Peter was aproached by some of the members of the "oldest profession". You don't hear about the "roll the drunk", as you put it, but it is some thing that can go on here. The campaign is what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. I guess you need to take the good with the bad.

Brian,
In another thread, I mentioned the allure of Vegas isn't really there for me. It just happens to be the venue for our industry's "Greatest Show on Earth", which is ARA Las Vegas.
Nothing against the city or its people, it's just that I don't gamble and being happily married, don't have the need for another adult companion. :-)
Hope you'll come to next year's ARA Show/Beach Party. Guaranteed to be better than this year's, which is a tall claim to make. :-)

David,
I second that! LV is not my choice of vacation destination and wouldn't bring my daughter for family time either.
We live relatively close to LV so it is not out of reason as far as expense goes but I would love to see ARA go somewhere else for their Biggest Show blah blah blah...
Like the rest of the gang Todd and I will continue to attend as it is a very good show.

For those of you who attended the Vegas show and would like to see it held in other venues, write the ARA or fill out the survey that they send out re the show. I know that there was some talk about Reno for this past years event, but there are plenty of other warm weather sites it could be held at; San Diego, San Antonio, Phoenix, Orlando, Sidney, and New Orleans just to name a few.
Write them if you would like it moved.
Dave

I was simply blown away
So...then you DID take them up on it? You nasty foreignor, you! (devil)
Sounds like an episode I had there years ago. Was there as part of a very large corporate bowling tournament. SO LARGE that we bowled according to a schedule, which was 24 hours/3 days.
Anyway, our "schedule" was such that we bowled in the middle of the very early morning. We finished just in time for a 6:00 a.m. breakfast. There were five us in one car and I let three out at the restaurant door and drove the car around to find a parking spot. As I and my buddy are walking from the car to the restaurant door, we round a corner and are face-to-face with three ladies of the evening whose leader, without any hesitation, says "would you gents like a little dessert before breakfast?"
